Weird Century is a tabletop roleplaying game setting which takes inspiration from the 19th century and combines it with fantasy for more fantastical elements to create a world of endless possibilities for storytelling at the table. As a setting you can use it with any tabletop system you like or you can use the games own system to play.
The 19th century is a very special time in history. It saw empires grow and fall, a world wide industrial revolution, it had the Victorian era, the wild west, the Meiji reformation in Japan, the exploration of deep Africa and South America, as well as both massive scientific and technological innovation. But it also saw massive political upheaval and reformation, there were major conflicts like the Napoleonic wars, the US civil war, and the Taiping rebellion, just to name a few. So much happened during this era that revolutionized the world.
This century also saw new religious movements and revivals with a series of so called great awakenings. One of these movements which took off in the mid 1800's was the spiritualist movement which was popular among the middle and upper classes which hosted meetings for séances where they attempted to make contact with the spirits of the dead. At the same time folklore was as strong a belief as ever and as more people from the rural and agrarian population moved to the large cities to work in factories they brought along their beliefs to the urban areas.
